Emmy-winning TV composer Jay Chattaway of Star Trek fame heard him and introduced Marion to iconic Grammy-winning pianist Bob James who ended up helping Marion launch his solo career.\n\nOver almost 3 decades\, Alex Bugnon has built a strong and loyal fan base across the country and around the world. His tour schedule has never eased\, even besting the great Dizzy Gillespie’s record of appearances at Washington\, D.C.’s Blues Alley. Last year marked Alex’s 20th consecutive year’s appearance at the legendary venue! He makes it a point of never missing a day of piano practice or of writing. If he is not composing\, he is listening to his favorite artists and biggest influences: Herbie Hancock\, McCoy Tyner\, Red Garland\, Ahmad Jamal\, Kenny Kirkland\, Mulgrew Miller\, Wynton Kelly\, Joe Sample\, George Duke and Keith Jarrett.

DESCRIPTION:In 1979\, Marty Ashby started a band called AURORA JAZZ FUSION to perform the contemporary jazz cross-over music of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Jazz was mixing with rock\, funk\, Latin and R&B which gave musicians the opportunity to explore unique connections and seek out new possibilities. This new iteration of AURORA\, with veteran and younger musicians\, allows the band to take a fresh look at the music from this important time in the evolution of jazz. AURORA focuses on playing instrumental jazz by such artists as Jeff Lorber\, Chick Corea\, The Brecker Brothers\, The Crusaders\, Weather Report\, Freddie Hubbard\, David Sanborn\, Larry Carlton\, and Grover Washington Jr.. \nAURORA is Marty Ashby on guitar\, Mike Tomaro on saxophones\, Jeff Bush on trombone\, Max Leake on keyboards\, Brian Stahurski on bass and Hugo Cruz on drums.

Two certified practitioners will guide you through this journey\, creating a calming and supportive environment for relaxation and renewal.\n\nComfortable\, thick mats are provided\, though you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.\n\nAfter the session\, guests are invited to stay and explore the instruments with a brief guided introduction.\n \nDetails: $35/session. Since 2008\, MCG Jazz has honored a class of Pittsburgh Jazz Legends every few years\, recognizing hometown jazz masters that have fundamentally stayed in Pittsburgh and kept the scene vibrant and thriving. These musicians not only have robust performance experience but have also mentored generations of jazz musicians both on and off the bandstand. The Pittsburgh Jazz Legends Ceremony celebrates their achievements\, their music\, and the Pittsburgh Jazz Community as a whole. We will be inducting the next class that will join the previous 35. \nWe are also thrilled to celebrate two very connected anniversaries – our 40th and the 90th Anniversary of Fallingwater. The inseparable connection is the fact that our facility was designed by Tasso Katseles who was a direct student of Frank Lloyd Wright. We honor these two anniversaries with a performance of Andy Farbers’s “Usonian Suite” and a world premiere of Mike Tomaro’s “Fallingwater” with the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra. A post-concert party with all the Jazz Legends and a jam session will follow!
