Marty Ashby’s 8th Annual Holiday Jazz Celebration

December 1, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

$43.50 – $53.50

Join guitarist and five-time Grammy Award–winning producer Marty Ashby for his annual holiday concert celebration. Ashby’s all-star quartet includes Tamir Hendelman on piano, Paul Thompson on bass, and Dom Moio on drums. This year’s special guest is actress and singer Gloria Reuben who will feature songs from her upcoming holiday album.

Reuben is well known for her roles in major films such as Lincoln, Reasonable Doubt, and Admission, as well as her appearances in various TV series, including Mr. Robot, ER, and the upcoming new Marvel series, Cloak & Dagger. American saxophonist Dave Koz called her latest jazz release “a truly beautiful album from start to finish . . . amazing playing by phenomenal musicians, great selection of material . . . but it’s Gloria’s elegant, refined voice that holds the listener. So intimate and present, she’s able to paint amazing pictures with her interpretations for these classic songs.”

Piano player Tamir Hendelman is known for his imaginative and sensitive playing and arranging on recordings by Natalie Cole, Barbra Streisand, and Roberta Gambarini as well as Graham Dechter, Richard Galliano, and Claudio Roditi. He has been the pianist with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra for many years, in addition to fronting his own trio. Pittsburgh bassist Paul Thompson has toured with Stanley Turrentine, Maynard Ferguson, Sean Jones, and countless others. Phoenix’s favorite son, Dom Moio, teaches Latin jazz at ASU and has performed with all the top musicians in the region and musical legends including Clark Terry, Ahmad Jamal, and Don Menza.

Marty Ashby is the executive producer of MCG Jazz, a program of the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild (MCG), which he started in 1987. He has performed with a wide variety of musicians ranging from Nancy Wilson and Ann Hampton Callaway to Paquito D’Rivera and James Moody. Ashby’s annual holiday celebration at MIM has become a tradition since the museum opened in 2010. Over the past seven years, the concerts have featured dozens of local and internationally recognized artists.
