This project was truly a labor of love and a testament of a life time of music making, mutual respect and admiration between father and son.

But what was originally envisioned as a “blowing date” became a celebration of jazz born and bred in Pittsburgh. The Johnson, DeFade , Benack, Ashby and DePaolis families heard on this recording represent a Pittsburgh jazz legacy every bit as deep as Dad’s and mine. Their input, enthusiasm and inspired playing added much joy to the project.

Many thanks go to Marty Ashby who immediately understood the uniqueness of the project and for his prodigious skills in the studio. Thanks also to Max, Eric, Thomas and Paul for your wonderful talents.

Special thanks to my Mom, Dolores, who has heard a lifetime of woodwind playing in her home and whose continued support as wife and mother made this possible. Also thanks and love to Erin and Evan, my wonderful children.

Many, many thanks to both the celebrated and non-celebrated jazz musicians of Pittsburgh who have greatly influenced Dad and me for the past 60 plus years!

Finally – Dad – thank you for your love, support and continued inspiration!
Don Aliquo, Jr.

I am forever indebted to my dear wife Dolores and our family, John, Cathy and Leslie. They can attest to my age and how it defies explanation of my passion and desire. Thanks to my son Don for conceiving of and working tirelessly on this project and for his expertise and incredible talent and artistry.

Also thanks to Marty Ashby for his phenomenal ear, knowledge and demeanor as producer.

Accolades to all the great players on this endeavor .and to Jay Dudt at Audible Images and Jesse Naus at Red Caiman Media – recording engineers extraordinaire. I should be inspiring them but they are inspiring me!
